The Illinois Paid Leave for All Workers Act (PLFAW), which takes effect on January 1, 2024, will impact almost all employers in the state. It mandates that employers provide up to 40 hours of paid leave annually for full and part time employees. The only exceptions are employers already covered by local leave laws (such as Chicago and Cook County) and employers whose leave policies are dictated by collective bargaining agreements. Once collective bargaining agreements expire, affected employers must negotiate a waiver or comply with PLFAW.
