The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) is expected to propose an increase in the minimum salary threshold for exempt employees from the current amount of $684 per week, implemented by the Trump administration on January 1, 2020.  How much of an increase will be proposed remains unknown at this time.

The salary threshold exemption will apply to “white-collar” positions under the FLSA, potentially impacting millions of workers around the United States.  With the expectation that the proposed salary threshold increase could be ruled on in the near future, employers should prepare now by reviewing pay practices, exemptions from overtime, and possible FLSA liability.
